Young lawyers, typically 35 and under, in Central Florida have an amazing opportunity to participate in functions that support Central Florida communities as members of the Young Lawyers Section of the Orange County Bar Association. Presently, there are 750 young attorneys who have less than five years in practice that make up the YLS. The group is active in many positive ways within the community, and members have the opportunity to build relationships within Orange County residents.

Every year YLS sponsors a charity golf tournament with the proceeds donated to special groups in need. YLS also supports a charitable event called Rock Lake Backpacks where underprivileged children receive school supplies to start the school year.

A new attorney in the Umansky Law firm, Michael Barber, is an active member of YSL and takes leadership in many of the functions and events. When asked about the YLS, Attorney Barber said YLS is a great organization that brings young professionals together to join in the shared purpose of bettering the legal profession and giving back to the community.

Michael is also involved in networking and social events for young attorneys and also for the public, and the group meets once a month for a luncheon and to discuss future involvement in events to better the community.

As a focused individual, Michael also uses his talents and skills as a young criminal defense lawyer participating in YLS events. This organization offers young professionals the chance to meet with other legal professionals to share ideas, and then express those ideas in charitable events and other community/citizen relationship building opportunities.

Attorney Barber concludes, Being an active member in YLS provides young lawyers with opportunities to work with their peers to create a meaningful impact to various charitable endeavors. YLS also provides young lawyers with an organization that can voice their concerns and ideas for improvement to the rest of the legal community in Orange County.
