Habits of Over Achievers

“I insist on a lot of time being spent, almost every day, to just sit and think. That is very uncommon in American business. I read and think. So I do more reading and thinking, and make less impulse decisions than most people in business. I do it because I like this kind of life.” – Warren Buffett

Over achievers can have a myriad of traits and habits that can differ from us normal people. We may not have their talents, but we can sure mimic their habits. These habits of over achievers are really simple. If you want to be a better entrepreneur, then I highly suggest that you practice these habits yourself.

Banish Distractions

I saw a video about a young man who asked a successful person on how to succeed. The guru told the young man to come to the beach early the next day. The young man did what he was asked to and went to the beach where he saw his future mentor already there. The successful person asked the young man to walk down to the water, although the young man was surprised, he obliged and ended up being waist deep on the ocean. The guru said, come a little farther, again the young man followed. When the young man’s head was just above the water, the guru forced the young man’s head down the water. The young man struggled and tried to fight the guru. When the young man was about to pass out, the successful person let go and raised the young man. The guru then asked, “How bad do you want to be successful?” and he continued by saying, “If you want to be successful just as bad as you want to breathe, then you’ll be successful.”

We all want to be successful, but not as bad as we want to breathe. When we want it to the point that it becomes second nature to us, then we will be strong enough to set aside distractions for our main goal.

Read Everyday

This is where Mr. Buffett’s quote comes in. You have to learn new things before you can earn money. If you want to enter a new business or invest into a new venture, read and learn everything that you can. Then continue learning about competition, trends, and even your own products.

Being Proud of Failures

Failing is one of the most important parts of learning. We can do everything in our power to avoid failure like reading, being mentored, and by preparing. But failure is character forming. It leaves a bad taste in our mouths that can either drive us farther or make us stagnant and those who do the former are the ones who achieve massive successes. So don’t be afraid to fail.

Although as I said, these are simple, you may find some of these habits to be really hard to follow. Start by removing your distractions bit by bit, read an article here and there, and if you tried and you failed, always remember to try again.
